I have been thinking about global warming. Though every other issue in human life and community is interconnected and interwoven with this one, global warming stands alone for me. If we do not have a planet which can sustain our lives and communities, all other issues will cease to be.

The movie   An Inconvenient Truth   is a movie about global warming, but it is about what we can do as well. I urge you to see it if you can. It lays out our present circumstances very clearly. To say that the situation is grave is an understatement, but, as Al Gore says, we have the resources and technology already available to do what needs to be done to heal our Earth. The movie left me with a feeling of hope and a even deeper committment to action.

The things that need to be done are things that each of us can do, individually and in community. We can, together, make the necessary changes in our homes, places of work, neighborhoods, cities, counties, states and countries.

People are seeing this movie in record numbers. It ends with many suggestions for actions we can each take (see: Take Action). Many people across the United States and in the world are rising to this challenge. Action will help to lessen the sense of distress we all feel about the threat to the livability of our world, and by taking action we will help to build a sustainable world. We can do this--we just need to start working within our own lives, beginning where we are.

I am, in this short reflection, adding my voice to many, many other voices calling for us to join together to heal the damage to our planet and to firmly set our feet on the road to sustainable living. We can do this--and we need to, very very much. It is critical to our survival.

If you would like to share any thoughts about global warming, please email me.
It would help if you would write "response to your global warming reflection" in the header.
If I get enough responses, I will start a separate webpage for them on this site.
